Genetic analysis and QTL mapping for seed fibre content in a black seeded doubled haploid population of winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus L)

High fibre content of the oil extracted meal is a limiting factor for its use as animal feed. Fibre fraction in rapeseed meal, particularly lignin which is mainly located in the seed coat is poorly digested and essentially dilutes the available energy and protein. To increase the value of oilseed rape meal for animal feeding, breeding efforts are undertaken to develop cultivars having lower fibre content. Taking advantage of natural genetic variation for neutral detergent fibre (NDF), acid detergent fibre (ADF) and acid detergent lignin (ADL) among black seeded germplasm may complement on going approach to reduce fibre content in winter oilseed rape meal.

The objectives of the present research were to study the genetic variation and inheritance of seed fibre content in the winter oilseed rape doubled haploid (DH) population Express 617 x R53 and to identify QTL responsible for this trait.
